General Description

The Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario (Universidad del Rosario) is a Colombian private institution of higher education with the academic character of University and legal status recognized by the Ministry of Government of Colombia in 1895. It is one of the most important universities in Colombia, because of its long history, its significant role in the vibrant political life of Colombia and its social impact throughout the country. As a result, the University has been awarded a high quality accreditation from Colombia’s Ministry of Education since 2005, and from QS Stars since 2016. UR currently has 47 research groups in areas such as health, natural sciences and social sciences. The main themes revolve around peace and post-conflict, gender, democracy and political representation, climate change, ageing, and technology at the service of the state and human rights in digital environments.

Role and Profile of key people

Dr. Benjamin Quesada (M): climatologist and professor at UR (Bogotá). Holds a PhD in Meteorology, a MS in Climatology and a BS in Mechanical Engineering. His research primarily focuses on: land-atmosphere interactions, temperature extremes, land-cover change impacts on climate and ecosystem functions and terrestrial carbon cycle. Author of 16 peer-reviewed publications (356 total citations, Google Scholar 12/2019) in a diversity of journals like: Nature Climate Change, Environmental Research Letters, Geophysical Research Letters, Journal of Climate, Earth’s Future, Global Change Biology and Applied Energy. Contributing Author of the IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Land (SRCCL, Chapter 2 “Land-Atmosphere Interactions”, 2019) and of the recent Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Global Assessment report (Chapter 4 “Plausible futures of nature, its contributions to people and their good quality of life”, 2019).

Key Research Facilities, Infrastructure and Equipment
